The fruit of the coffee bush is the glowing red fruit that contains the bean. Until now growers had to throw away this fruit because it was too perishable to process, and harvested only the bean.
What a waste! Like many plants, coffee distributes its powerful nutrition throughout the whole fruit, not just the seed. Whole coffee fruit is loaded with high concentrations of beneficial antioxidants and other extraordinary nutrients. The healthy attributes of whole coffee have been common knowledge to people living in coffee-growing regions since time began. Recently, however, many fascinating new health benefits are being observes and researched by scientist.
The story of how CoffeeBerry gets its goodness begins on the slopes of high-altitude volcanic mountainsides. Nourished by mineral-rich soil and warmed by intense tropical sunlight, coffee plants produce a profusion of wonderful bright red fruit.
CoffeeBerry is so exceptionally rich in antioxidants because they are made from coffee fruit grown at high altitude, low latitude regions where the sun's rays are strongest. As the plants mature, they develop these powerful antioxidants to protect them from damage caused by high doses of the sun's radiation and the natural byproducts of photosynthesis.
The antioxidants in CoffeeBerry are from polyphenols or phenolic acids, natural plant antioxidants abundant in the whole fruit of the coffee plant.
Coffee polyphenols:
- Neutralize toxic free radicals
- Help protect against systemic oxidative pathologies such as coronary heart disease, inflammation and possibly even certain cancers.
- Provide health benefits associated with glucose management, Type 2 Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome, depression and anxiety and oral health.
A single 1 gram serving of CoffeeBerry made from that fresh red fruit provides the same anti-free radical power of 33 grams of fresh blueberries!
The U.S. Department of Agriculture for Aging at Tufts University measured the Oxygen Radical Absorbent Capacity (ORAC) of more than 40 fruits and vegetables.
Compared to their measurements, a 1 gram serving of CoffeeBerry provides the same anti-free radical power as 625 grams of fresh blueberries, 974 grams of strawberries, 1230 grams of raspberries or 2030 grams of grapes!
Antioxidant scores for Acai Berry range from 165 to 1200 ORAC/g and Maqui Berry can be as high as 3000 ORAC/g, it all depends on where the raw material is purchased. So if you are using a product that makes a big deal about using Acai or Maqui Berry in their formulation you need to ask where they are purchasing the raw material and the potency of that material!

If those who are commenting on the ORAC VALUES of the products they are touting, would pay more attention to the article, they would realize that the coffee fruit has an ORAC VALUE of 7,900!!! This is according an analysis by Brunswick Labs, cited in a study. That is higher than all the other fruits mentioned ( Acai, Maqui berries, Blueberries, etc.)! The author did not mention the actual ORAC VALUE of 7,900. He did express it as multiples of the other fruits he mentioned. I guess, many are so focused on selling their “ super fruit”, they failed to pick that up.
Are lectins an issue with the coffeecherry?
